SODERN has supplied radiation-resistant optics for the electro-nuclear industry and research reactors for 25 years, initially under the trademark of CERCO. Standard products are scanning through-wall periscope for observing inside hot cells and non-browning zooms (radiation tolerant) for inspecting with rad hard video cameras.

Scanning through-wall periscope achieves high resolution observation of more than a half space inside a hot cell, with an adjustable magnification by a x 6 zoom. The periscope is mounted on the hot cell by means of a tight envelope ; the periscope includes a built-in biological shielding equivalent to the one of the hot cell. With its unique visual ergonomics, extended binocular observation is achieved without visual fatigue. The periscope could be fitted with video and digital photography cameras. All optical motions are remote controlled.

non-browning zooms 22-90 F/3.5 for 2/3“ video

SODERN has already delivered nearly thousand radiation resistant zooms over the world : standard types are 35-135 F/2.7 and 18-78 F/2.7 for 1" camera and 22-90 F/3.5 and 11-49 F/3.5 for 2/3" camera. Focus, zooming and iris diaphragm are remote controlled.

On volume order, fixed focal lenses from 9 F/1.5 to 75 F/3.5 are deliverable in fix or motorized versions.

Non-standard products for observation in hot cells are metallographic periscopes, macroscopes or microscopes, all characterized by a superior image quality. Special products are reactor periscopes for fast breeder reactors or fusion TOKAMAK research reactors.

All optical parts of these elements are made with cerium oxide doped glass, or synthetic fused silica or calcium fluoride, so that these optics withstand accumulated radiation up to 5x10+7 to more than 5x10+8 , depending on products.
