Sodern is taking part in the EPS-SG Multi-Viewing Multi-Channel Multi-Polarization Imaging (3MI) instrument. It is a passive optical radiometer dedicated to aerosol characterization for applications in climate monitoring, atmospheric chemistry, and Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP). Sodern manufactures subassemblies of the 3MI Instrument: focal planes assembly & frontend electronic for the 2 VNIR (Visible and near infrared) & SWIR (short wavelengths infrared) bands.
The qualification tests have confirmed the performance of the instrument. Sodern has delivered the two engineering qualification models (EQM) to our customer, Leonardo. This milestone is a prerequisite to the qualification review which will take place in a few weeks.
The overall performance of our equipment exceeds expectations, with particularly low levels of parasite signal registered by the instruments detectors.
An innovative cooling circuit enables very low temperature, and offers high thermo-mechanical stability. Leonardo has expressed its satisfaction at this stage of the project. In the words of the 3MI Procurement Manager: “Many congratulations to Sodern people for the excellent job done!”
The flight model will be delivered by the middle of 2020.
